☀️ DAY 6: Cover letter breakdown ☀️
It's not that complicated...
Happy Friday! Yesterday’s post provided some questions to help you uncover your passions, commitments, and skills.
Today, we’re building on those learnings and we’re starting the process of creating your cover letter!
Let the timer begin…

The “body” of your cover letter consists of 3-5 paragraphs that explain your passions and interest in a company. Let’s take an example of how to create one of these paragraphs…
1. Take a question from the last post
Example: Do moments come to mind where I had to work hard to solve a difficult problem or to overcome a challenge?
☀️☀️☀️
2. Take your notes you may have jotted down when thinking about the question
Example: “As a member of [INSERT CLUB / TEAM NAME], I noticed that our whole team was working on different things and there was no effective communication. Because of this, I created a new channel for the members of the team to effectively communicate. This worked well.”
☀️☀️☀️
3. Create an uncustomized mini-paragraph about your passion/skill
“I am obsessed with making sure that organizations work as effectively as possible. It is for this reason that I am so passionate about improving operations at companies. I previously was on the [INSERT CLUB / TEAM NAME at SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION NAME] and identified a major need for more effective communication within the team, which I solved by implementing an organization-wide [name efforts you did; example: Slack channel]. I want to continue my passion for helping make organizations efficient.”
☀️☀️☀️
4. Customize your mini-paragraph (from step #3) based off the company/role you're applying to
“I am obsessed with making sure that organizations work as effectively as possible, and I want to do this at [COMPANY YOU'RE APPLYING TO]. I previously was on the [INSERT CLUB / TEAM NAME at SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION NAME] and identified a major need for more effective communication within the team, which I solved by implementing an organization-wide [name efforts you did; example: Slack channel]. Similar to this example, I want to continue my passion for helping make organizations efficient at [COMPANY YOU'RE APPLYING TO].”
☀️☀️☀️
The paragraph you created in step #4 is an example of a completed paragraph of your cover letter. Congratulations! If you repeat steps 1 to 4 above 3-5 times, you’ll have all the paragraphs for the body of your cover letter. In our next post, we’ll talk about the introduction and conclusion to your cover letter.

For more details and another example of creating the body of your cover letter, take a look at this post.
We hope you enjoy the start to the weekend! We’ll see you tomorrow for some Saturday fun!
