☄️ DAY 22: How to make the most of a networking call ☄️

Optimize your networking experience

Welcome back! Now that you’ve done your research on the person/their company, you’re hopefully getting ready for the actual conversation! Let's get prepared together...

☄️ How to best approach the conversation ☄️

  • Be engaged and only focus on the conversation. Do not be distracted by emails, text messages, etc.

  • While you’ll probably be asking the majority of the questions and the other person will be doing the majority of answering (and talking), you should still use opportunities in the conversation to highlight your passions/experiences

  • Have your questions prepared in advance, however be prepared to modify them based off how the conversation is going! You should ask both person-specific and company-specific questions...use the following two sections as inspiration!

☄️ Company-specific questions ☄️

  1. What values do you find that [COMPANY NAME] prioritizes the most?

  2. What have you found the environment at [COMPANY NAME] to be like around professional development and opportunities to grow?

  3. I saw that [COMPANY NAME] recently achieved a milestone [ADD SPECIFIC DETAILS] / raised a round of fundraising (if applicable). Congratulations! What do you see as the biggest areas of emphasis going forward at the company in light of this milestone?

  4. How do you see the strategy of [COMPANY NAME] evolving going forward?

  5. If the company is a startup: I understand that working at a startup has plenty of challenges. What has been your biggest challenge of working at [COMPANY NAME]?

☄️ Person-specific questions ☄️

  1. What is it about working at [COMPANY NAME] that gets you most excited?

  2. What skills do you feel that you and other employees have developed the most at [COMPANY NAME]?

  3. If the person has worked at multiple companies: I’m curious about what it was in your prior experience at [COMPANY THEY WORKED AT *PRIOR* TO CURRENT COMPANY] that led you to join [CURRENT COMPANY]?

  4. Are you able to walk me through how your role has evolved at [COMPANY NAME] over time? (This question is probably most applicable to ask if you notice on the person’s LinkedIn that they have changed titles of their role at least one time)
