đź’Ą DAY 21: How to prepare for a networking call đź’Ą
Show them you're worth their time
Welcome back! Today, we will be focused on the 1st step of preparing for a networking call: researching the person you're talking to and their company. The next posts will discuss the 2nd and 3rd steps: asking effective questions and knowing how/when to bring up an internship.
Tik-tok...let's go!

1. Researching the person's background
LinkedIn will usually be your go-to source. Here are some things that might be worth paying attention when looking at their LinkedIn:
Where did they go to school?
For how long have they worked since graduation?
What have been their job titles and functions?
Have they switched companies/roles a lot or a little?
Do they have anything outside of work experience (ie: volunteer work) that resonates with you?
Do they have any skills listed that are skills you also have?

2. Researching the company
You also want to do your research on the company (where the person works)...here are a few suggestions:
Scour the company’s website. Look at how they describe their product, how much it costs, how long it takes to sign up, who the company counts as customers, and what their brand is
It is worthwhile to get a sense of how big the company's team is. LinkedIn is usually the best place to see the team size (by searching for the company and looking at how many employees they have)
Look at recent news about the company (by searching for the company in Google and filtering by “News”)
If the company is a startup, it can be helpful to understand their venture capital fundraising history. A great source to learn about a company’s fundraising is Crunchbase

In our next post, we’ll discuss how to be engaged in the networking conversation and ask great, detailed questions. See you soon!
