Time to brag about yourself

Welcome back. In yesterday’s edition, we focused on the education section of your resume. Today, we’re focused on the experience section, which can include roles you’ve had in work/professional settings, academic settings, and other settings.

Ready. Get set. Go!

🌲 What should be included for each experience: đźŚ˛

  • Company/organization/school where you did the role

  • Location of role (City, State)

  • Your title 

  • Time (month, date)

  • Bullet points describing your role, responsibilities, and impact (more details about this below!)

🌲 Example experience section: đźŚ˛

🌲 Some things to keep in mind about the bullet points for each experience on your resume: 🌲

  • Your bullet points want to speak about specific actions that you did

  • Your bullet points should quantify your performance wherever possible

  • Each bullet point should fit on one line

  • Each role should have between 2 and 5 bullet points

  • Bullet points should talk about you in the third person, without saying your name

    • Example: “Wrote 15 cover articles for the school newspaper” … not “I wrote 15 cover articles…” and not “Jamie wrote 15 cover articles”
