🌶️ DAY 4: How you can be the chef of your internship/job application process 🌶️

Let's head to the kitchen to break it down...

EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT: earlier today, Intern From Home and our May-long course (yes, the one you’re reading in this email!) was featured in The Chronicle of Higher Education. We're thrilled to have The Chronicle recognize our commitment to impacting as many high school and college students as possible on their internship and job searching process.

Yesterday, we shared 8 questions you can ponder as you figure out what type of role you want.

Today, you’re becoming the chef 👨‍🍳 of your internship/job searching process. Let's get that timer started...

Pretend you’re in a kitchen. If you are a chef, you have a primary job which is to… cook food 🍳. But, if your kitchen and sink are full of dirty pots and pans, you can’t do your job. You need to make sure the dishes are cleaned so you can do your job. You also need ingredients.

🌶️

This same example holds true when it comes to applying to internships/jobs

🔪 You need a clean and clear space where you give yourself dedicated time to work on your internship and job applications. Suggestion: carve aside 1 hour per day to work on internship/job applications.

🥬 You need ingredients in order to apply to roles. These include your cover letter and resume. In the upcoming editions of this course, we’re going to be teaching you from start to finish how to create your cover letter and resume.

🌶️

As we prepare to start working on our cover letter and resumes, we encourage you to start thinking about...

1. What do you have passion for?

2. What have been your favorite experiences in the past at school and outside of school? (leadership roles, sports, music… anything!)

3. What type of work gets you excited to think about? It’s ok if nothing comes to mind!

Lots more details about these steps can be found in this post.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow! Oh, and please don’t forget to refer your friends to the newsletter using the link below.
