⛱️ DAY 19: Application tracker: why you should use it ⛱️

Organization is a must!

Welcome back! Today, whether you’re right in the middle of applying to internship roles or just thinking about starting, this post is going to teach you a valuable strategy to keep track of it all: an internship application tracker in a spreadsheet.

Put 30 seconds on the clock...

⛱️ Why you should be using a tracker ⛱️

1. It will help you keep track of loose ends... that can make or break whether you get a role

We’ve talked, previously, about how much companies value great communicators. To this end, sometimes during the internship application process, it will be on you to ensure that you are reaching out to the appropriate people. This tracker can help you stay on top of your communication.

    2. It can be overwhelming to apply to so many roles (and reach out to lots of people for informational interviews) with no central place to keep track of your efforts

Your tracker provides a place to put your thoughts on paper (well, digital paper) so that you don’t have to use up your mental energy in keeping track of it all. Once you build your tracker and update it, you may very well feel like space in your brain has freed up.

    3. Your tracker gives you a visual way to see how your efforts are going: you might be doing much better than you think!

Applying to internships and jobs can be a stressful process where you might feel like you aren’t making progress. However, you might very well be making progress and you’re just not giving yourself credit. Your tracker allows you to see the progress you’re making.

    4. You’re building a habit that can be helpful in many other aspects of life: learning how to navigate a complex process

Applying to internships is a complex process that requires organization and keeping track of many moving parts. By using a tracker to navigate the application process, you’re learning how to take a complex process and keep it organized. This skill can be applied to other facets of your life (ie: applying to college, keeping track of expenses, etc.)

If you want to understand more of the reasons on why to use a tracker, then please visit this post. We will see you all tomorrow where we will teach you how to build your trackers!
